Volunteer Speedway releases ambitious 2007 schedule
BULLS GAP, Tenn. — During Volunteer Speedway’s tradition-steeped history the track has hosted many special events and all the major touring series’ including, the National Dirt Racing Association (NDRA), Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series, United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA), Renegade Short Track Auto Racing Stars (STARS), World of Outlaws Late Model Series, and the Southern All-Stars Dirt Racing Series.
For the 2007 racing season track owner Joe Loven has put together a very ambitious schedule, which will kick off with the running of the $10,000-to-win "Ninth Annual Spring Thaw" for super late models on Friday and Saturday, March 2-3.
"I'm very proud of this racetrack and I want to offer the fans the best racing possible," said Volunteer Speedway owner Loven. "The racing business really is the entertainment business, and you've got to offer the fans who come out to support you good entertainment. We're really trying to expand the visibility of the track this year not only locally, but on the regional and national level by bringing in several of the country's top touring series for some big-money events.
"It's a very ambitious schedule we've put together for 2007. I'm very excited regarding our series events we're bringing in this year, and there will be some major purse money paid out. It's quite costly to bring in the top racing series, but I've listened to what our fans are wanting — and they want to see the best-of-the-best racing. While we're all excited about these big events, I'm also really proud of our strong weekly racing programs. We've got very good weekly racing, and we hope to build on it even more in the future."
Interest is running at an all-time high regarding the first-ever appearance at "The Gap" by the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series during Bristol Motor Speedway NASCAR racing weekend on Saturday, March 24. The top sprint car drivers in the country will be present, headlined by "The King of the Outlaws" Steve Kinser as he will be shooting for his unprecedented 21st WoO sprint car championship. Also in action will be 2006 point champion Donny Schatz, Danny "The Dude" Lasoski, Joey Saldana, Craig Dollansky, Daryn Pittman, Terry McCarl, Tim Kaeding, Jason Meyers, Brooke Tatnell, plus many others.
The "Fourth Annual Scorcher 100," which has become one of the top dirt late model shows in the country will offer over a $100,000 purse during mid-week in August (21-23). The race winner will pocket $20,000, with the event paying $3,000 to make the field.
Two touring series' will be making their first-ever visits to the track, with the Advance Auto Parts Thunder Series coming in for a $5,000-to-win event on May 5, while the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be in action for a $10,000-to-win event on July 7. The Ray Cook "Southern Nationals" will also make a return engagement this year on Friday, July 27 for a $5,300-to-win show.
What should be one of the most exciting events ever held at "The Gap" will see the country's top motorcycle riders who compete on the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Flat Track Series take to the high banks on June 2.
With crate-engine late model racing growing more-and-more popular, the Carnesville, Ga.-based Fastrak Racing Series Crate Late Models will make their first of three appearances at the track in 2007 on April 28, with the other two dates being June 30 and Sept. 29.
